Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Radda, alongside twelve other persons are undergoing medical examination following a road accident that occurred along Katsina-Daura Road in Katsina State.

The accident which was a head-on collision involving a Toyota SUV vehicle and a commercial Volkswagen station wagon occurred near the KTSTA Motor Park in Daura.

While the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has not released an official statement on the incident as it “awaits a comprehensive report from its Daura outpost”, eyewitness accounts and photos from the scene of the accident reveal that the two vehicles involved were severely damaged.

Eyewitnesses told Radio Nigeria that the governor’s vehicle was not moving in a convoy, they narrated that the incident involved an attempted overtaking by one of the vehicles.

One of the good Samaritans that was involved in evacuating the injured persons from the scene of the accident to the Federal Medical Center, Daura, told Radio Nigeria that all the nine passengers in the commercial vehicle sustained various degrees of injuries.

“We took them to the General Hospital (Daura) where they are being treated”, he said.

Meanwhile, the Katsina State Commissioner of Information, Alhaji Bala Salisu Zango, has visited the injured commercial vehicle passengers at General Hospital Daura where he announced that the state government will foot their medical bills.

“The Deputy Governor sent me to check on them, to see how they are doing, and I am glad that they are in a stable condition.

“Seven of them sustained only minor injuries, however, two of them have fractures but they are getting medical attention and they are responding well to treatment.

“The Katsina State government will settle all their medical bills and closely monitor their condition until they recover fully, the doctors and nurses are attending them and making sure that they are treated promptly”, Zango said.

He noted that the governor was also in a stable condition and has been discharged earlier from the Federal Medical Center, Daura.

“I spoke with him on phone not long ago, he is in good condition, he was hospitalized alongside the commercial vehicle passengers at the same facility – the Federal Medical Center, Daura – he was discharged after he was confirmed to be in good condition”.

Similarly, a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Radda, Malam Kaula Mohammed, confirmed that the governor was in a stable condition.

Meanwhile, the governor had in a short video clip released on social media channels explained that he and others that were involved in the accident were undergoing further medical examination.

“Members of the public, we are grateful to you for your prayers, we were involved in a road accident but we are in a good condition, we thank God.

“We are undergoing further examinations in order to recover fully, we therefore extend our appreciation for your prayers, thank you”, the governor said.
