A Nongovernmental Organization, Women Initiative For Sustainable Environment (WINE), has observed the 2025 International Women’s Day Celebration in Kaduna with a call on all women across the globe to show solidarity towards uplifting standards of women above the present status.
Executive Director of the organization, Mrs. Olanike Olugboji-Daramola made the call at the event with the theme: For all women and Girls, Right, Equality, Empowerment attended by thousands of women across Kaduna state.
She said the principal objective of the event was to mobilize women in creating awareness towards breaking any barrier that stand on the way of women against success and progress.
The Executive Director called on women to stand firm in support of each other and fight for their rights against forces of discrimination including gender based violence especially on women and girls.
Mrs. Olanike Olugboji-Daramola however acknowledged the progress already made in achieving increase in women’s participation in politics, promotion of girls’ education, and in challenging discriminatory laws and practices.
The Executive Director therefore urged government at all levels to eradicate the root causes of gender inequality and chart a path for substantive equality, with equal rights and equal opportunities for women and girls.
In her speech, National President, Jamiar Matan Arewa, Hajiya Rabi Saulawa appealed on the women to focus on what unites them and not issues that creates division.
Earlier in a presentation on Role of Women and Girls in Climate Action, Mrs. Anna Avong stated that the event was also to foster the promotion of sustainable environment by planting trees, keeping a clean environment and farming activities.
The event marks the thirtieth anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action which is a pivotal year for women’s movement, women’s liberation, women’s rights, and a time to fight for women’s and girls’ rights, for gender equity and equality.
Highlights of the International Women’s Day include, Debates, Dancing Competition, cooking competition, song renditions and presentation of gifts.
