Academic and commercial activities have been paralyzed in Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State following the killing of a student of the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) by members of the Civil Hunters (JTF).

An eyewitness confirmed to Radio Nigeria in Katsina that the incident resulted from a disagreement between the student, Sa’id Abdulkadir Emir, and members of the Special Hunters (JTF) at Unguwar Kashe Naira, near the university’s take-off campus.

According to him, the Special Hunters stopped the Okada rider, who was with the deceased person. As they proceeded, one of the hunters pulled the trigger and shot both Sa’id Abdulkadir and the Okada rider, Abubakar Darawa, in their lower bodies.

He added that the student died instantly, while the Okada rider sustained a gunshot wound. Both were rushed to General Hospital Dutsinma and later transferred to Katsina for further medical treatment. Meanwhile, angry students stormed the hospital in protest, but the culprits had already fled.

Similarly, one Ibrahim Lawal told Radio Nigeria correspondent that some students later blocked the main road linking Katsina, the state capital, with other local governments and neighboring states, demanding justice for their colleague and the Okada rider.

He added that security personnel, including the army and police, overpowered the students’ attempt to take the law into their own hands and managed to control the situation.

In its own decision, the Senate of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma has announced a one-week mid-semester break starting Monday, February 24, 2025.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi, announced the Senate’s decision and advised students to vacate the campus before 6:00 PM today, Monday, February 24, 2025.

The management wishes all students a happy and peaceful mid-semester break.

In an interview, residents of Dutsinma town expressed concern over the activities of the Special Hunters (JTF) in the area, citing numerous instances of their unprofessional and negative conduct.

Many of them called for the hunters to be relocated, preferably to areas severely affected by security challenges.
