Kwara State Government has commenced the distribution of the sum of N600 million naira grant to empower 30,000 women and petty traders across the sixteen local government areas of the state.

Speaking at the flagg- off of the disbursement of the grant , the Acting General Manager Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP), Abdulquawiy Olododo said the programme is a replica of the World Bank programme, Nigeria for Women Project.

He said each of the beneficiaries will receive N20,000 to support their trades.

According to him the disbursement exercise will started with Asa, Ilorin West and Ilorin South, while other local governments will be scheduled for the coming days.

Olododo said enumeration is still ongoing to accommodate more people .

He dismissed speculations that the selection process was political, adding that the list was a product of consultations with relevant stakeholders, including trader’s group, at the beneficiaries locations.

In his remarks, the Transaction Implementation Committee (TIC) Chairman for Asa local government area of Kwara state , Alhaji Abduganiy Atebise said the concept is people- focused that will go a long way in reviving several businesses in the state.
