Kebbi State, Britain Boost Economic Relationship

The British Government has assured to depeen economic and cultural relationship with Kebbi State.

British High commissioner to Nigeria Catiriona Laing, gave the assurance when she and her team visited Kebbi State.

The Higher Commissioner said, she was in Kebbi state to see what the state is doing in respect of its successful agricultural programme and economic activities and to see where to learn and intervene.

She said over the years, there existed a deep relationship between Nigeria and Britain which made the late Queen Elizabeth to visit Nigeria twice in her live time, assuring that, King Charles lll will consolidate the relationship.

Laing said that, Kebbi was very successful in her agricultural activities particularly in rice production and its government appears to be committed to its progress and development .

She enjoined other states in the country to learn from Kebbi in the area of agriculture.

“There is security in kebbi State and its economy is good. Kebbi is very important in the committee of states in Nigeria and peace therefore we will see where more to learn from it’s agriculture program.We are taking details to see where we can help Kebbi State in any of our programs”.

On the country’s 2023 coming elections, the High Commissioner said, Nigeria has the best democracy in Africa and people will be watching closely.

She added that, because democracy is threatened in some of the neighboring countries, Nigeria elections is crucial for security and peace in Africa as well as good for its citizens, Africa and the world in general.

Responding, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, said the people of Kebbi State appreciated the high commissioner’s visit , saying it will foster more relationship between the state and Britain.

He revealed that, the emirate system has help to develop mutual understand and boost competition in every area of human endeavors in the state and has helped in its conflict resolution mechanism that existed in the state.

According to him, the earliest foundation has helped the state in areas economic activities lsuch as fishing, agriculture, mining and rice production.

The Governor disclosed that, fishing activity had been threatened due to lack of water occasioned by climate change and over fishing.

He stated that, there has been a frustration in the fishing community because fisher men in the state have not been able to meet their needs due to climate change.
