The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, Mrs. Abike Dabiri, has called on Nigerians to desist from disparaging the image of the country, as such action bars foreign investment and the progress of its citizens.

Appraising the activities of her Commission at a media briefing in Abuja, Mrs. Dabiri, expressed displeasure over the difficulties being faced by Nigerians seeking visas, which she attributed to the negative portrayal of the country by some few individuals.

She noted that those indulged in promoting lies and exaggerations on social and traditional media should understand that their handiwork was killing the country and its citizens.

She explained that foreigners, and even Nigerians in the diaspora wanting to invest in the country were being dissuaded from doing so by such indecent publications.

Mrs. Dabiri called on Nigerians to be patriotic enough to save and promote their country’s image, stressing that outsiders’ perception of Nigeria will propel them into treating Nigerians abroad scornfully.
