A non governmental organization, Partnership to Engage Reform and Learn (PERL), says it will not relent in it’s efforts of tracking implementation of budget, bridge the gap and increase enrollment, retention, transition and completion of girls education in Kano.
The Director, Engaged Citizens Pillar (ECP), PERL, Hajiya Hajara Sulaiman made the disclosure during an interactive session on the dissemination of findings on girl’s education at piloted local government areas in Kano.
She maintained that the organization was committed to strengthening institutional coordination and partnerships for use of resources and accountability on girls education.
The Director explained that, girl’s education partnership with support from PERL, was working asidiously to bridge the gap by identifying tracking tools developed in three pilot local government areas of Warawa, Kunchi and Rogo.
She said the motive behind the interactive session was to present the challenges identified, and look at the effectiveness of the interventions advocated by girl’s education partnership (GEP).
Earlier in her remarks, the co chair GEP, Hajiya Mero Bello said the objectives of the session was to present outcome of findings to wider stakeholders and validate the outcomes from the three pilot LGA’s.
In his remarks, the Managing Director Kano state Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA), Alhaji Ibrahim Salisu maintained that, outcomes of engagements with PERL has widened the agency’s scope on girl’s education.
He said, GEP identified schools with inadequate potable drinking water and toilet facilities which prompted RUWASA to provide befitting sanitary facilities and boreholes.
On the role of traditional leaders in advocating for interventions on girl’s education, the District head of Gandun Albasa, Engineer Kasim Yakubu said Gandun Albasa primary and government girls secondary school benefitted from renovation and building of blocks of classrooms by a philanthropist.
Speaking on advocacy visits to all the five emirate councils, a lecturer with Federal College of Education (FCE), Kano who doubles as member Girls Education Partnership, Dr. Hadiza Sani Gadanya and Hajiya Ladidi Sani Fagge described the coalition as an eye opener.
They stressed that the partnership solicited for the cooperation of the five emirs of Kano, Bichi, Rano, Karaye and Bichi on the urgent need to lend their voices to move girl’s education to global standards.
They added that,GEP had solicited for interventions where an IT company donated one thousand laptop computers to be distributed to five girls schools across the five emirate councils in the state.
