The National Youth Inclusive in Governance Organisation (NYIGO) a Northern Youth Platform has advised youth to participate in political development of the country as the forth coming 2023 general elections draws near.

Convener of the group Mr Yusuf Sheriff Banki gave the advice while addressing newsmen in Bauchi on the political situation of nation.

Yusuf Sheriff who urged political leaders to engage the youth to transform the country said with over 60 percent of the country’s voting population is dominated by young eligible voters.

He said the youth had been neglected and forced to surrender to their fates noting that some politicians were using them as tools of violence and destruction for long a period.

The convener of the group urged political elites to mentor the youths on political education and employment opportunities which would serve as a succession plan for them to take over the affairs of governance when the time comes.

He explained that the group had began to mobilize youth across the length and breadth of the country against youth exploitation ahead of 2023 general elections expressing optimism that the exercise would clear a road map for another journey in transition to democracy.

Shareef noted the role played by the country’s founding father while at their prime ages to include Late Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Oba Femi Owolowo, Herbert Macoulay contributed immensely to the development of the country.

He faulted political leaders manifestation of weak or no internal democracy which resulted to leave the nation security exhausted by insurgency, armed banditry, kidnappers as well as communal clashes among others.

Representatives of various youth groups from across the country participated in the forum.
