National Association of Resident Doctors-NARD has commenced a nationwide indefinite strike.

The President of the Association, Aliyu Sokomba told AFP today.

Aliyu Sokomba said the doctors embark on strike due to failure of government to meet their demands made in June this year.

According to him, the demands are unpaid salaries, non-payment of hazards allowance and dearth of Personal Protective Equipment-PPE in hospitals among others.

He said there will be no exemptions as medics treating virus cases would join the action this time around.

In the same vein, the Joint Health Sector Union-JOHESU and Assembly of Health Professionals have given federal government one week ultimatum to address all their demands before September 13 or proceed on strike.

National Chairman of JOHESU, Comrade Bio Joy Josiah made this known at a press conference in Abuja.

Meanwhile, Minister of Labour, Dr. Chris Ngige says September 9 by 12 noon has been fixed to reconvene conciliatory meeting with NARD.
