The Kebbi State Government has targeted the enrollment of over one hundred and twenty thousand out of school children back to schools in the year 2021 under the Better Education Service Delivery for All BESDA programme.

The Chairman, Kebbi State Basic Education Board, Professor Suleiman Khalid, disclosed this to journalists in Birnin Kebbi.

He explained that last year, over eighty six thousand out of school children were enrolled back to school with the targeted projection of enrollment of sixty five thousand out of school children aged from six to eleven years.

“Infact when I’m talking about bringing out of school children back to school, i actually refer basically to BESDA programme activities which focus mainly out of school children especially the almajirai”.

According to him, mainly in the rural areas, the issue of access to education has gender dimension and has to do with residence where boys and girls who leave in the rural areas are less likely to access education than those in the urban areas.

“We have more children outside the formal education because we have more children in the Quranic schools (makarantar allo), tsangaya and whatever and we actually trying to bring them in, first reaching out to them intervening in their schools
first reaching out to them intervening in their schools providing them with sheds then water and sanitation like open water toilets”.

The Chairman said, recently five hundred and four conveniences were constructed and the proprietors given some token money to merge formal and traditional education.
