The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) says it will enroll 6,000 vulnerable persons living with tuberculosis (TB) and leprosy into the Contributory Healthcare Scheme.

Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Muktar, disclosed this during a strategic engagement with the 44 Local Government Area TB and Leprosy Supervisors held in Kano.

Dr. Rahila said the initiative aligns with the healthcare transformation agenda of the Kano State Government under Gov Abba Yusuf, aimed at expanding access to healthcare for vulnerable residents through sustainable health financing.

She explained that the programme is designed to remove financial barriers that often prevent TB and leprosy patients from accessing essential healthcare services.

According to her, beneficiaries enrolled under the scheme will receive comprehensive healthcare services through KSCHMA’s network of accredited healthcare providers across the state.

The Executive Secretary described the collaboration between KSCHMA and the State TB and Leprosy Control Programme as a major step toward strengthening disease control, improving case management, reducing catastrophic health expenditures, and enhancing the well-being of vulnerable populations.

She urged the 44 Local Government TB and Leprosy Supervisors to intensify community mobilisation, ensure accurate identification of eligible beneficiaries, and provide the technical support required for the successful implementation of the enrolment exercise.

Dr. Rahila reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage through strategic partnerships, innovative health financing mechanisms, and inclusive healthcare interventions that ensure no one is left behind.

The meeting featured technical sessions on beneficiary identification, enrolment procedures, implementation strategies, and the responsibilities of field officers in ensuring the successful rollout of the programme.

The planned enrolment of 6,000 vulnerable TB and leprosy patients is expected to strengthen Kano State’s healthcare system while improving access to equitable and sustainable healthcare services for some of its most vulnerable residents.
