Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, has inaugurated the Kaduna South Local Government Council’s digital governance initiative aimed at promoting accountability, transparency and efficient public service delivery.

The initiative, unveiled at the State House Banquet Hall in Kaduna, featured the launch of the council’s official logo, a new web portal and the presentation of its midterm administration scorecard under the theme, “Navigating the Future: Driving Inclusive Governance through Digital Innovation.”

Speaking at the event, Dr. Balarabe said the initiative aligns with Governor Uba Sani’s SUSTAIN Agenda and the state’s digital governance policy, which seeks to build a transparent, inclusive and people-centred government.

She stressed that technology should improve citizens’ access to information and public services rather than serve as a ceremonial achievement.

“A digital government should not merely put information online; it should put power back into the hands of the people,” she said, urging the council to regularly update the portal to enable residents monitor projects, access opportunities and actively engage with government.

She described the administration’s scorecard as “a contract of trust” between government and the people.

Earlier, the Executive Chairman of Kaduna South Local Government, Rayyan Hussein, said the digital initiatives were designed to strengthen transparency, accountability and service delivery.

He noted that the council’s achievements were made possible through the support of Governor Uba Sani’s SUSTAIN Agenda, which has been translated into impactful programmes across the local government’s 13 wards.

According to the chairman, the council has recorded significant progress in healthcare through the rehabilitation of primary healthcare centres, deployment of medical personnel, a 70 per cent subsidy on medical bills, enrolment of 1,000 residents into the Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA), distribution of maternal delivery kits and nutrition support for vulnerable children.

He added that the administration has also implemented interventions in education, agriculture, security and governance, including the renovation of schools, sponsorship of students for public examinations, empowerment of farmers and women, installation of solar-powered boreholes and the introduction of digital certificates of indigene.

In her goodwill message, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma K. Ahmad, commended the council chairman for prioritising improvements in healthcare, education and security.

She described his leadership as exemplary and urged other local government chairmen in the state to emulate the initiatives for improved grassroots development.
