Jigawa State Executive Council has approved over N2.9 billion for the procurement of 20 brand-new Toyota Hilux 2025 model vehicles for security agencies operating across the state.

The State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Alhaji Sagir Musa Ahmed, disclosed this to journalists after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Dutse.

He said the approval is in line with Governor Umar Namadi’s administration’s commitment to strengthening the state’s security architecture, safeguarding lives and property, and enhancing the operational efficiency of security agencies.

According to the commissioner, the deployment of the vehicles will improve the mobility, logistics and rapid response capabilities of security agencies, enabling them to effectively combat crime, respond promptly to emergencies and maintain peace and public order.

He noted that the additional operational support would assist security agencies in addressing emerging security challenges and sustaining a secure environment for residents, businesses and visitors across the state.

On the health sector, Alhaji Sagir disclosed that the council also endorsed the implementation of a 3.2 million-dollar grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to strengthen healthcare delivery in the state.

He explained that the three-year grant, secured by the Jigawa State Ministry of Health, will support the strengthening of the state’s primary healthcare system under the Jigawa State Integrated Primary Health Care Planning and Execution Support Project (2025–2028).

The Commissioner said the project aligns with the present administration’s commitment to reducing maternal and child mortality, expanding access to quality primary healthcare services and improving health outcomes across the state.

He added that the project would provide technical and operational support to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of primary healthcare services.

According to him, the implementation of the grant is expected to strengthen health sector planning and governance, improve evidence-based decision-making, enhance service delivery at primary healthcare facilities and build institutional capacity to provide accessible and equitable healthcare services.

The Commissioner said the council commended the Ministry of Health for securing the highly competitive international grant and expressed confidence that its implementation would further consolidate Jigawa’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading states in primary healthcare development.
