A Federal High Court sitting in Gusau and presided over by Justice Hassan Dikko has adjourned a pre-election suit involving the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura to June 25, 2026.

The suit was filed by a Zamfara North senatorial aspirant, Dr. Abdullahi Shinkafi.

The case, which challenges the outcome of APC primary election that produced Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura as Senatorial Candidate for Zamfara North, came up for preliminary proceedings aimed at acquainting the court with the parties and their respective positions.

Speaking to journalists after the court session, Barrister J.C. Shaka, representing the third defendant, Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura, confirmed that, all parties in the matter have been duly served with the originating summons.

“We represent the third defendant and have filed all necessary processes to contest the claims before the court,” Shaka stated.

Barrister Shaka explained that, the adjournment would allow all parties to comply with procedural requirements, including filing their responses either in support of or in oppose to the petition.

Also speaking, counsel to the plaintiff, Bello Galadi, said proceedings could not advance beyond mention due to the absence of INEC and APC the second defendant in the suit.

He noted that, no reason was provided for INEC’s absent.

Galadi further explained that, the suit filed by Dr Abdullahi Shinkafi challenges the validity of the APC primary election, alleging that the process was marred by irregularities and did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act as well as the party’s guidelines in producing Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura.
