President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s maritime security and enhancing the operational capacity of the Nigerian Navy.

The President stated this while delivering a keynote address at the International Fleet Review held at the Eko Atlantic Waterfront in Lagos as part of activities marking the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary.

President Tinubu described the Navy’s evolution from a modest colonial marine department in 1956 to what he called Africa’s most formidable naval force as a testament to professionalism, dedication, and strategic leadership.

He commended the Navy for eliminating piracy in Nigerian waters, curbing crude oil theft, and safeguarding the nation’s maritime domain, which he noted remains critical to economic growth and foreign exchange earnings.

The President also praised the Navy’s contributions to counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations across the country, particularly the role of the Special Boat Service and the newly inducted Navy Marines.

President Tinubu further appreciated international partners for supporting maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea and welcomed the establishment of the Combined Maritime Task Force aimed at strengthening regional cooperation.
