President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has continued to prioritise peacebuilding and conflict resolution as part of efforts to strengthen national unity and support economic development across the country.
According to Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House, the administration has adopted dialogue, reconciliation, and stakeholder engagement to resolve longstanding disputes threatening national stability and economic growth.
Oladunjoye noted that beyond key economic reforms such as fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange harmonisation, the introduction of NELFUND, the CNG initiative and infrastructure expansion, the Tinubu administration has also recorded progress in promoting peace and national cohesion.
He cited the Ogoni crisis in Rivers State as one of the major disputes addressed through consultations involving the Office of the National Security Adviser, community leaders, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, traditional institutions and security agencies.
The renewed engagement led to the submission of the report of the Presidential Committee on Ogoni Consultations chaired by Professor Don Baridam on September 25, 2025, paving the way for the restoration of peace and the planned resumption of oil exploration activities in Ogoniland.
President Tinubu also hosted reconciliation meetings at the State House and honoured notable figures killed during the crisis, including environmental activist Ken Saro-Wiwa.
The administration also resolved the long-standing Malabu Oil (OPL 245) dispute, regarded as one of Nigeria’s most commercially significant oil assets.
Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, said the resolution ended years of legal and political uncertainty surrounding the asset and is expected to increase Nigeria’s oil production capacity by about 150,000 barrels per day.
Similarly, the Federal Government resolved the over 20-year dispute with Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited over the concession of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) in Lagos.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, announced the resolution on April 30, 2026, describing it as a product of sustained dialogue and stakeholder engagement aimed at strengthening investor confidence in the aviation sector.
In Plateau State, President Tinubu convened a meeting of political, religious and traditional leaders, including Governor Caleb Mutfwang and former governors of the state, to seek lasting solutions to recurring ethno-religious and communal conflicts.
The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa on April 29, 2026, focused on consultations and review of previous recommendations aimed at restoring peace in the state.
Observers say the administration’s emphasis on negotiation, institutional coordination and inclusive engagement is helping to reduce tensions, improve investor confidence and support national development.
