Kaduna State Government, in collaboration with key project partners, has intensified stakeholder engagement efforts toward the successful implementation of the Kaduna Bus Rapid Transit (KBRT)Projects a transformative urban mobility initiative set to redefine public transportation in Northern Nigeria.
At a recent stakeholder workshop held at KADSTRA Kaduna, alongside a high-level consultative meeting with traditional rulers on project officials provided detailed updates on the progress, design, and implementation strategy of the KBRT project, also known as Kaduna Connect.
In his presentation the DG KADSTRA Engr Inuwa Ibrahim described the project as the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria, aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve the safety and reliability of public transport, and stimulate economic growth while promoting modern, efficient urban mobility.
Speaking during the engagement, the Project Director Engr. Yamusa Bello Yamusa stated that the project represents a historic milestone for Kaduna State and the nation at large. The KBRT system will transform how people move across our city, and we are committed to ensuring that all stakeholders, especially our traditional institutions, are fully involved in shaping its success.
Project Coordinator Engr. Usman Aliyu highlighted the project’s objectives including.
“The Kaduna Bus Rapid Transit system is designed to reduce congestion, improve safety, and provide a reliable and modern transport system that supports economic growth and urban development.”
Ted Regino, Team Lead of the Project Management and Operational Design (PMOD), emphasized stakeholder involvement:
“Stakeholders are central to the success of this project. Their role in consultation, advocacy, and feedback will ensure that the system is not only efficient but also inclusive and responsive to community needs.”
Dr. Abdulkadir Jafar, Social and Community Specialist, added:
“We are committed to continuous engagement and ensuring that community voices are reflected in every stage of the project. This will help build trust, reduce disruptions, and enhance overall project delivery.”
The KBRT system will feature approximately 30 purpose-built bus stations and a fleet of high-capacity buses, operating across 10 routes implemented in phases. The initial corridor will span from Gonin Gora to Rigachikun, including key areas such as Refinery Junction.
The infrastructure component will cover approximately 24 kilometres, from Kawo Bridge to NNPC Junction
Project officials noted that the system will incorporate global best practices, including dedicated lanes, modern stations, pedestrian safety features, inclusive access for persons with disabilities, electronic payment systems, and intelligent transport solutions.
Stakeholders expressed strong interest in the project, praising the incorporation of key issues related to infrastructure design, environmental sustainability, safety, and integration with existing transport systems. In response, project teams assured participants that all inputs would be carefully considered as the project remains in the design phase.
The Kaduna State Government reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and sustainable development, noting that continued stakeholder engagement will be critical to the successful delivery of the KBRT project.
