The 2027 election in Kauru LGA of Kaduna State will likely be determined more by candidate acceptability and grassroots support than by party dominance.

The report, released by the Kauru Youth Ambassadors KYA, stated that relying solely on party structures or legal outcomes may not guarantee electoral victory.

KYA noted that the outcome of the 2023 election in Kauru Federal Constituency reflected a clear and deliberate decision by voters across the area.

According to the group, high voter turnout and consistent voting patterns across wards pointed to a strong, community-driven political direction rather than a temporary shift influenced by campaign activities.

It added that from Kauru West to Makami, and from Geshere to Kwassam, voters exhibited a uniform pattern, indicating decisions rooted in local interests and priorities.

The report described the voting trend as an organised and intentional expression of democratic will.

While the current member representing Kauru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mukhtar Chawai, later reclaimed the seat through a court ruling, KYA stressed that the legal outcome differs from the mandate expressed by voters at the polls.

The group further observed that Kauru’s political landscape has since evolved, with defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as movements of some APC and Labour Party (LP) members to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signalling early alignments ahead of 2027.

Despite these shifts, KYA maintained that voter sentiment remains largely consistent, driven more by performance, local perception and community alignment than by party affiliations.

It added that although the APC enjoys structural advantages as the ruling party, internal competition among aspirants could pose challenges.

KYA described a potential re-election bid by Mukhtar Chawai as politically risky, citing voting patterns recorded in 2023.

The forum also noted that both PDP and ADC are positioning themselves with credible candidates, with PDP relying on its traditional support base, while ADC appears to be gaining ground through recent defections and protest votes.
