The political landscape in Jigawa State shifted further in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday as Governor Malam Umar Namadi received about 4,000 defectors in Taura Local Government Area.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Government House, Dutse, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, says the event which also included the commissioning of a new APC secretariat in Taura, represented a significant boost to the party’s grassroots presence.

The defectors were led by former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and four-time member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Safiyanu Ubale Taura, described as a key political figure in Taura and Ringim areas.

Addressing supporters, Governor Namadi said the mass defection reflects the growing acceptance and strength of the APC across the state.

“This development shows that the APC remains the party of choice for the people of Jigawa. The calibre of those joining us represents a strong political base in Taura and Ringim,” he said.

The governor noted that the influx of new members outweighs recent exits, adding that the party continues to expand across all local government areas. He assured the defectors of fairness, inclusiveness, and accountable leadership.

“We will treat you fairly, lead with integrity, and uphold the trust you have placed in us,” Namadi added.

The APC State Chairman, Hon. Ahmed Garba M.K., attributed the wave of defections to the governor’s inclusive leadership and ongoing development projects, including the restoration of electricity to Taura after years of outage.

In his remarks, Hon. Safiyanu Ubale Taura pledged the loyalty of his supporters to the APC, assuring their commitment to strengthening the party and supporting the administration ahead of future elections.
