President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a series of appointments across key education institutions, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Federal Polytechnic in N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State, and the National Library of Nigeria.
Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed Chairman of NECO’s Governing Board, while the registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, has been retained.
The President also named Dr. Bongfa Binfa as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, and renewed the tenure of Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria.
For NBTE, Prof. Babatunde Salako was appointed Chairman, while the incumbent Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris Bugaje, was earlier reappointed for a second and final five-year term.
Prof. Adelabu, a retired academic in educational administration, previously served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and former Chairman of NBTE.
Prof. Salako is a respected researcher and former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, where he led institutional reforms and expanded global research collaborations.
Dr. Binfa succeeds the pioneer Rector, Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026. His appointment follows a competitive selection process initiated in September 2025.
He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.
Prof. Anunobi, first appointed in 2021, has spearheaded reforms to modernise the National Library, including digital initiatives and progress on the institution’s headquarters project in Abuja.
The President expressed confidence that her renewed tenure would ensure continuity in reforms and the successful implementation of the library’s 2025–2030 strategic plan.
