Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has unveiled 70 brand-new Howo trucks for distribution to boost construction activities in the state.

Governor Zulum announced this at the inauguration at the Government House, Maiduguri with the fleet allocated to the Ministry of Works and the Borno State Road Maintenance Agency (BORMA).

The governor said the trucks would enhance the operational capacity of the Ministry and its agencies by ensuring the timely delivery of construction materials and prompt intervention on damaged roads.

He explained that the newly established quarry centre would supply locally sourced materials such as granite, gravel, and sharp sand for ongoing and future road projects, thereby reducing reliance on external suppliers and lowering costs.

Professor Zulum noted that despite significant achievements in sectors such as health, education, agriculture, security, and road construction, challenges still persist, particularly in developing rural road networks.

The governor further attributed delays in infrastructure projects to insecurity in some parts of the state, which he said has discouraged contractors from executing projects in affected areas.

He also announced the establishment of a quarry centre in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area, as part of efforts to accelerate infrastructure development.

The facility, built at a cost of about ₦3 billion, has a processing capacity of 120 tons per hour.

The ceremony was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani; the Acting Chief of Staff, Dr Babagana Mustapha Mallumbe; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engineer Baware; the BORMA Chairman, Engineer Sadu Auno; and the Special Adviser on Monitoring and Evaluation, Engineer Bukar Gujubawu, among others.
