Bandits in Sokoto State have abducted nine persons and wounded two at Chacho village in Wurno Local Government Area.

The incident, which occurred late in the night, disrupted the fragile peace of the community, leaving residents in fear and uncertainty.

In a telephone call, an eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity told Radio Nigeria that seven among the abducted victims are women while the remaining two are men.

The eyewitness explained that the assailants who arrived in large numbers stormed the village from their enclave at Sabon Birni LGA forest, firing sporadically to scare residents before carrying out the operation.

He added that despite efforts by local vigilante groups to secure the area, the gun runners cut them off guard forcing the villagers to flee their homes.

Confirming the attack, the Police Public Relations Officer Sokoto Command, Deputy Superintendent Police, Ahmad Rufai, said the police had already launched an operation to track down the perpetrators.

According to him, security operatives were swiftly deployed to the area immediately after the attack.
