The ancient city of Kano was plunged into mourning on Thursday following the death of a woman who had just given birth to quintuplets at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
She passed away late Wednesday night, just hours after a successful delivery.
Reports confirmed that the mother had been admitted to the hospital earlier in the day and delivered five babies.
Medical sources indicated that her condition deteriorated rapidly despite the best efforts of hospital staff to stabilize her.
The quintuplets are reportedly receiving intensive care at the hospital, though their current health status has not been officially disclosed.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Ministry of Health, Nabulisi Abubakar, confirmed the mother’s death.
Hospital authorities have yet to release a detailed statement regarding the circumstances surrounding her passing.
Family members and relatives gathered at the hospital in grief as news of the tragedy spread late Wednesday night.
Authorities have assured the public that further details will be provided as investigations and medical reviews into the incident continue.
