The National Police Council has confirmed Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police, officially making him Nigeria’s 23rd police chief.
The council, chaired by President Bola Tinubu, endorsed the appointment at its meeting held at the State House, Abuja.
President Tinubu had earlier appointed Disu as Acting IGP on February 24, following the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun.
The confirmation is in line with constitutional provisions and the Police Act.
Disu, a seasoned officer, previously served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, and as Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Special Protection Unit.
The meeting was attended by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Minister of Police Affairs Ibrahim Geidam, and several state governors.
