Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has facilitated life-saving medical interventions for three vulnerable patients in Kano State, highlighting the state government’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare.

The interventions were carried out through the agency’s Rapid Response Team (RRT), which coordinated emergency referrals, specialist care, and surgical support for patients facing serious medical conditions and financial challenges.

One of the beneficiaries, Mallam Haruna Ya’u, who had been battling a severe hernia, was referred to Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital for specialist evaluation.

Following clinical assessment, he is currently receiving treatment and has been scheduled for surgery in the coming weeks.

At the same facility, Khadija Ali is receiving intensive care after suffering a hypertensive attack.

Medical personnel are closely monitoring her condition to ensure stability and prevent further complications.

In a more complex case, Umar Abdullahi sustained a serious leg fracture but was unable to continue treatment due to financial constraints, leading to complications and infection.

KSCHMA intervened and facilitated his reassessment at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he was placed on medication and monitored for eight weeks to treat the infection and promote healing.

Following successful recovery and medical clearance, Umar is now scheduled to undergo orthopedic surgery, with KSCHMA providing the required surgical implant to support a successful outcome.

The agency said the interventions reflect the healthcare reform agenda of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, which prioritizes inclusive healthcare, financial protection for vulnerable residents, and improved referral systems across health facilities.

Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, said the Rapid Response Team remains committed to coordinating emergency medical referrals, ensuring continuous patient follow-up, and improving access to specialist care across the state.

She added that the agency will continue monitoring the patients’ progress to ensure full recovery and reaffirmed KSCHMA’s mandate to deliver accessible, equitable, and people-centered healthcare services.

The intervention highlights ongoing efforts by the Kano State Government to remove financial barriers and ensure that residents, particularly the vulnerable, are not denied essential medical treatment due to economic hardship.
