President Bola Tinubu has accepted the resignation of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu as Acting IGP with immediate effect.
Egbetokun, who was appointed in June 2023 for a four-year term, submitted his resignation citing pressing family considerations.
President Tinubu commended the outgoing police chief for his decades of distinguished service, professionalism, and commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s internal security architecture.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President expressed confidence that AIG Disu’s experience and leadership would provide steady direction for the Nigeria Police Force at this critical time.
The statement notes that, in line with the Police Act 2020, the President will soon convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider Disu’s appointment as substantive Inspector-General of Police before forwarding his name to the Senate for confirmation.
President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening national security and ensuring the Nigeria Police Force remains professional, accountable, and fully equipped to carry out its constitutional duties.
