Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has empowered thirty one (31) farmers groups with farming inputs in order to increase food production and strengthen national food security.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, made this known during the distribution of farm inputs to farmers’ groups in Arugungu local government area of Kebbi State.
Represented by the Director Cooperative of the ministry, Dr Mohammed Bashir Abdulkadir, the minister said it is the mandate of the ministry to provide continuous support to farmers to boost agricultural productivity, as the event theme tagged “Inputs Distribution for All-Year-Round Farming”.

He noted that small holder farmers constitute about 95 per cent of the farming population and remain the backbone of food production in the Nigeria and called on the to improve in their performance as well as to use the equipments judiciously
According to him, sustained support through provision of modern farm inputs would enhance farmers’ morale and encourage bumper harvests so that citizens have a lot to eat and to export to other countries..
The State Coordinator of the ministry in kebbi State, Dr Ari Mohammed Abdulrazak disclosed that 31 farmers’ unions including women, youths and persons with special needs have benefited from the intervention adding that, the initiative is designed to promote inclusive participation in agriculture and ensure year-round farming activities.
In their separate remarks, the Secretaries of AFAN Bello Kalgo and KADAGE Women Farmers Associations Hajiya Fatima Abubakar have commended the Federal Government for the timely support adding that the gesture would encourage farmers to return to their farms, especially after the losses encountered in previous farming seasons.
Similarly, the Emir of Arugungu, represented by the Majidadi, Alhaji Samaila Yakubu commended the effort of the president Bola Ahamed Tinubu and the minister of Agriculture for initiating the which he described as timely and will farmers to boost their production.
He warned the beneficiaries to use the gesture judiciously for their lively hood and to improve food production and security across the state and the country at large
Highlights of the event was the distribution of the farming supplements Which to include
liquid Organic Fertilizer, Rice Distiller, Food Dehydrator, Maize Tresher and Equipments, Nap Sack Sprayer, Multi-purpose Tresher, Solar Water pomp and Smoke liner aimed at improving productivity and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
