Panic gripped Singa Market in Kano as another fire outbreak engulfed shops at Gidan Gilas, popularly called “Gidan Mai,” destroying goods worth millions of naira.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a provision shop in flames, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky.

Traders and residents rushed to salvage goods and prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining structures, but the intensity of the blaze made containment difficult.

According to onlookers, the fire was rapidly spreading to nearby buildings, creating panic among traders and shoppers in the busy market area.

As at time of filing this report, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and there is no indication of what triggered the outbreak.

Officials of the Kano State Fire Service promptly responded with a fire truck; however, the initial water supply was exhausted as firefighters struggled to control the raging fire.

Another fire truck later arrived to continue the firefighting efforts.

In a show of solidarity, a private tanker from Aspira Nigeria Limited also joined the efforts to extinguish the blaze.

Despite this support, many traders and residents called for additional water tankers to prevent further destruction.

This latest incident comes just weeks after another devastating fire at Singa Market, which caused significant losses for traders, further compounding the hardships faced by business owners in the area.

Authorities have urged traders to exercise caution and are investigating the cause of the fire.

More Details Later.
