The Kwara State Fire Service has averted a total destruction of an apartment following a fire outbreak on Fufu Street, opposite the Medical Centre, Sabo Oke area of Ilorin.
In a statement, the Head, Media and Publicity of the service, Hassan Adekunle says the incident involved a building comprising about nine (9) rooms, out of which one (1) room was affected by the fire.
According to it, the Firefighters arrived promptly and, through swift and coordinated action, successfully saved the remaining rooms and nearby buildings, preventing further spread.
It says preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a power surge, which ignited combustible materials within the affected room.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Alabi Muhammed advised residents to ensure the installation of surge protectors, avoid overloading electrical circuits, and conduct regular checks on electrical wiring.
He emphasized that early reporting of fire incidents and adherence to basic electrical safety measures are key to preventing avoidable losses.
