Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the award of a contract for the renovation and reconstruction of the Emir of Hadejia Palace at a cost of over ₦1.48 billion.

The commissioner for information, youth, sports and culture Sagir Musa Ahmed revealed this in a statement issued to newsmen after the council meeting.

The approval is in recognition of the palace’s historical, cultural, and traditional significance to the people of the state.

He says the project is aimed at restoring and preserving the palace structure, improving its functionality, and safeguarding its status as a symbol of traditional authority, heritage, and cultural identity.

Sagir Musa says intervention underscores the state government’s commitment to the preservation of traditional institutions and cultural heritage for present and future generations.

Meanwhile, the council has also approved the procurement of ten additional foreign-used Toyota Hilux vehicles for security agencies operating across the state at a total cost of about ₦870.1 million.

The approval, which followed due process and compliance with procurement laws, is part of the administration’s sustained efforts to protect lives and property.

The commissioner further says the vehicles will be deployed to strengthen patrol, surveillance, and rapid response operations across the twenty-seven local government areas of Jigawa State.

The state government says the intervention will enhance the operational capacity of security agencies, improve response time to security challenges, and support coordinated security efforts at both state and local government levels, as it reiterates its commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring a safe environment for socio-economic development.
