Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has directed commanding officers to strengthen collaboration with state governments and critical stakeholders to ensure safer roads nationwide during the Yuletide.

The Corps Marshal, who gave the directive at the opening of the Fourth Quarter Strategic Session with Zonal and Sector Commanders from the 36 states and the FCT in Abuja, said the collaboration became necessary in view of the anticipated increase in vehicular movement associated with festive periods

According to him, motorists engage in practices such as overloading passengers and goods, exceeding speed limits, and driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages.

The Corps Marshal emphasized the need for commanding officers to intensify awareness campaigns and advocacy efforts to reduce road crashes and meet the expectations of the FRSC.

He also urged officers to consult widely with all relevant stakeholders, including Special Marshals, civil society organizations, faith-based groups, and educational institutions, in line with the theme of the strategic session: “Mainstreaming Road Safety into National Development: The Role of Government at All Levels.”

Speaking on the dangerous act of scooping fuel from fallen tankers, Shehu Mohammed appealed to the public to desist from such practices, noting that about two hundred people lost their lives in 2025 as a result of tanker crashes linked to attempts to scoop spilled fuel.

On the proposed Electronic Passenger Manifest, the FRSC boss explained that the scheme is expected to generate accurate data on passengers and vehicles traveling on interstate routes.

He urged officers and men of the Corps to remain committed, noting that the FRSC Amendment Bill awaiting presidential assent is a deliberate effort by the management to strengthen the institutional framework for road management in the country.

He assured that with collective resolve, the Corps will continue to work towards safer roads to support socio-economic activities nationwide.
