The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clarified the precautionary diversion of one of its C-130 aircraft during a ferry mission to Portugal on Monday, December 8.

Air-Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Force Headquarters, Abuja, issued a statement saying that shortly after take-off from Lagos, the aircrew detected a technical issue requiring immediate attention.

In line with international aviation standards and established safety protocols, the pilots executed a precautionary landing at the nearest suitable airfield in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.

According to Air-Commodore Ejodame, the crew landed safely and has since received warm and professional assistance from the host authorities.

The statement stressed that the diversion was strictly a safety measure and did not constitute an emergency situation.

It stated that arrangements were already underway to resume the ferry mission as scheduled once all necessary technical checks were completed.

The Nigerian Air Force expressed appreciation to the Burkina Faso authorities for their cooperation and reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to operational safety.
