Nigeria is on the verge of sealing an expanded cooperation agreement with the Government of Japan aimed at strengthening technical capacity, boosting human resource development, and catalyzing new investments in the nation’s health sector.
This was disclosed by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, CON, after a series of high-level engagements with Japan’s Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, alongside key development partners, during the Global Leaders’ Coalition meeting in Tokyo.
Prof. Pate noted that the discussions were productive and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s health priorities through cross-cutting collaborations that span technology transfer, workforce training, and broader sectoral development.
He emphasized that the forthcoming agreement will focus on sustainable, long-term systems strengthening and improved service delivery for Nigerians.
According to the Minister, these renewed ties reflect Nigeria’s strategic intent to work closely with global partners to modernize its healthcare architecture, expand access to quality care, and create an enabling environment for impactful investments.
The talks in Tokyo signal a positive shift in Nigeria–Japan bilateral relations, setting the stage for deeper engagement in areas crucial to national health security and socioeconomic development.
