Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has praised the Armed Forces and security agencies for their efforts in safeguarding the nation.
Receiving the wives of the newly appointed service chiefs at the State House, Abuja, Senator Tinubu expressed sadness over the recent abduction of 25 students of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, calling for a minute’s silence in honour of the slain Vice Principal.
She reminded the wives that their husbands have taken on a role that demands sacrifice, stressing the need for their full support.
“Your husbands signed up to protect the nation at the expense of their lives. I pray they succeed in their responsibility,” she said, urging the spouses to complement their husbands’ efforts in meeting the expectations of President Tinubu and Nigerians.
The First Lady also announced that this year’s Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Programme will hold nationwide in December with military veterans among the beneficiaries.
She encouraged the wives of the service chiefs to champion care for the elderly beyond official programmes.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun, wife of the Inspector General of Police, thanked the First Lady for her nationwide humanitarian efforts, particularly in empowerment, education and healthcare.
In a separate engagement, Senator Tinubu also received the management of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), where she was decorated as the Grand Matron of the Road Safety Special Marshal.
While appreciating the honour, she called for greater use of technology and stronger inter-agency collaboration to reduce road accidents.
She also emphasized stricter enforcement of speed limits and deployment of more FRSC personnel ahead of the yuletide season.
