Sokoto State Government set up Committee to assess the abandoned two story building at Sheik Abubakar Mahmud Gumi Memorial College

During the handover of the building to the Engineers who will do the integrity test, the Chairman of the Committee Alh Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo said they are at the building to officially handover the building to the Consultants to conduct integrity test if the building can be salvaged .
On the history of the building, Alh Chiso explained that the building was initially constructed 50 years ago during the administration of late Usman Faruq, the contract was given to Lebanese after four years the contract was revoked and given to indigenous contractor Late Alh Dikkon Gande who completed the construction of the building.

He further explained that the students moved into the building at the early Eighties and when the students were attending classes it was mentioned that the building shakes through the steers and there was panic and the students had to evacuate the building in panic manner and there was no death recorded,and that was the reason the building was abandoned.

According to him the last administration attempted to renovate the building but the have not seen the report.
Alh Chiso said the committee has now invited consultants to conduct an integrity test to determine whether the building should be abandoned or renovated.

Speaking during the handover of the building the Managing Director of Ahmadu Bello university Consultancy Services Nigeria Limited Professor Mansur Dodo said the mandate given to them by the committee set up by Governor of Sokoto State is to conduct structural integrity test assessment of the building
He explained that part of the exercise they are going to undertake four activities, and they are in the building for the first three which includes rebound hammer test, the second test is ultrasonic pulse velocity test and third is the physical inspection of the building to observed the cracks on the building
Professor Dodo added that they are not going to used insinuation but rather use data to analyze the results and provide recommendations on the integrity of the building to the Sokoto State Government.
