A lawmaker representing Bayelsa Central, Senator Friday Benson, has expressed support for the presence of the United States in Nigeria to help curb insecurity across the country.
Senator Benson made the remarks while reacting to the US President’s intervention in assisting Nigeria to address the security challenges affecting many parts of the nation.
He noted that over the years, Nigeria has been battling multiple security issues, including Boko Haram and banditry, but efforts have often been unsuccessful due to the escalating nature of insurgency activities.
The senator also confirmed that the legislative arm has been fulfilling its role by supporting the executive with all necessary approvals to tackle insecurity in the country.
The lawmaker believes that the Trump’s intervention is something Nigerians need to look at it with shroud eyes, saying some security personnel are being accused of colliding with the criminals to perpetuate their nefarious activities
Senator Friday Benson further advised that if security agencies cannot quenched the situation ones and for all , I think intervention like this will be welcome development.
He also suggested that so many things happened in Nigeria that warrant investigation to get to the root causes so that we may have a lasting solution to insecurity in the country but things remain as they are without required changes.
The lawmaker advised Nigerians to support the Government and the security agencies in doing their constitutional mandate with a patriotic mind.
