The Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmad Sa’id, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as part of efforts to empower Nigerian youths and reduce unemployment.

Speaking during an inspection visit to Bayero University, Kano, the Minister said the initiative was designed to make young Nigerians self-reliant by equipping them with relevant vocational skills.

She noted that many graduates have already keyed into the program, which she described as a catalyst for unlocking the potentials of the nation’s youth.

Professor Sa’id expressed satisfaction with the level of commitment and success recorded since the program’s inception, adding that there are about 150,000 training centers across the country.

She said the Federal Government would provide starter packs to trained beneficiaries to help them establish their own businesses.

The Minister commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the initiative, which she said covers about 25 different trades, and urged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity to achieve self-sufficiency and contribute to national growth.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Haruna Musa, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Ahmad Muhammad Tsauni, described technical and vocational education as vital to national development.

He said the university would continue to align with federal programs aimed at enhancing vocational education for the progress of the country.
