House of Representatives has inaugurated an ad-hoc committee to investigate all security intervention funds disbursed by the Federal Government from 2015 to date.
The committee, chaired by Representative Zakariya Dauda Nyampa from Adamawa State, is mandated to probe the growing disconnect between the large budgetary allocations to the security sector and the persistent insecurity across the country.
Representative Nyampa explained that the investigation will cover all intervention funds, special allocations, and procurement processes carried out by beneficiary agencies, as well as assess the impact of the spending on national security.
The committee Chairman further assured plans to collaborate with the Ministry of Finance, the Budget Office, Office of the National Security Adviser, Defence and Police authorities, the EFCC, ICPC, and civil society watchdogs to ensure transparency, accountability and fiscal discipline in the management of resources meant to protect Nigerians.
In a message, Speaker of the House Dr Abbas Tajuddeen, said the creation of the committee is a demonstration of the 10th House unwavering commitment to promote accountability in matters of national security and appealed to the stakeholders to co-operate for better result.
Represented by the House Deputy Chief Whip, Ibrahim Isiaka, the Speaker urged the committee members to uphold the core values of the House during the probe which includes accountability, effectiveness, and fairness.
