The Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association-NAOWA has called on women to pay adequate attention to their health status.
Chairperson of the Association, One division chapter, Dr. (Mrs) Halima Bamanga Tafida-Wase made the call at this year’s cancer awareness week held in Kaduna.
Dr Halima Bamanga Tafida-Wase noted that NAOWA was breaking the many years of silence and lack of awareness suffered by women.
She pointed out that breast cancer is not a death sentence, but can be treated successfully when detected early.
The NAOWA Chairperson advised women to examine their breast regularly and report any unusual change to the doctor.
Dr Halima Wase called for collective effort to build a community where no woman feels alone in the fight against the disease, and where hope replaces fear.
In her presentation, a medical practitioner with the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Dr Rabi’a Adam disclosed that one in every four women is a victim of breast cancer.
She advised women to take proactive steps to detect potential issues in its early stage.
The theme of the awareness is “My Breast and I”
The event had in attendance wives of soldiers and senior officers, as well as female staff serving in one division.
