Kano State Ministry of Health has commenced a high-level technical meeting to review and validate the State Strategy for the Scale-Up of Medical Oxygen in Health Facilities.
The meeting, chaired by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, aims to strengthen oxygen availability and accessibility across all tiers of healthcare delivery in the state.
Held in Kaduna State, the event brought together senior government officials, development partners, health experts, and representatives from key health institutions, all contributing expert insights to ensure the framework is realistic, comprehensive, and actionable.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf underscored the vital role of medical oxygen in saving lives particularly during emergencies, surgeries, maternal and child health care, and the management of respiratory illnesses.
He reaffirmed that ensuring consistent oxygen supply aligns with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s broader vision of improving healthcare outcomes for all residents of Kano State.
Discussions during the meeting focused on key components of the draft strategy, including sustainable oxygen generation, staff training, equipment maintenance, funding mechanisms, and monitoring and evaluation systems.
Stakeholders also identified existing gaps and opportunities to align the strategy with national and global health standards.
Development partners present at the meeting commended Kano State for its proactive and data-driven approach to strengthening the health system.
The meeting is expected to produce a validated strategic document that will guide the implementation of oxygen scale-up efforts across the state.
Once finalized, the strategy will serve as a policy tool to ensure that medical oxygen remains available, affordable, and accessible, thereby reinforcing Kano State’s leadership in healthcare innovation and reform in Northern Nigeria.
