Niger State Government has expressed it’s readiness to partner with the Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers at the state and Federal Government level to ensure the implementation of resolutions reached at the end of its twenty fourth International Conference.
State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago stated this while declaring opened the twenty fourth Annual General Meeting and International Conference of the Society held in Minna, the Niger state capital.
Represented by the Head Of Service, Engineer Idris Abubakar the Governor explained that this had became imperative because sustainable and responsible mining are very important protecting green energy initiative as the Hallmark of his administration.
Umar Mohammed Bago however maintained that Niger state Government is fully committed in promoting responsible mining practices in human growth towards obtaining greener energy sources for maximum benefits.
In his remarks, the National President Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers Dr Umar Hassan said though the laws and regulations are in place but implementation is very weak, which was due to inadequate funding of the regulatory functions of ministries departments and agencies and called for deliberate step to address such problems.
Dr Umar Hassan opined that mining cannot be carried out without adequate security because Minerals are found in remote areas and for miners to operate effectively there is the for the Federal Government to do what ever it takes to improve on such aspect.
Also speaking National President Nigerian Mining and Geosciences, Ms Rose Ndong who commended organizers of the conference for organizing such impactful conference which she described as apt and timely, said Nigeria must take leadership by managing its Mineral wealth effectively to achieve low carbon future.
The theme of the conference is “Sustainable Mining Practices As Crucial Support For Nigeria’s Transition To Green Energy Source”. during which Governor Umar Bago of Niger state and some well meaning Nigerians have been conferred with members of fellow of the Institute award, for their service to humanity.
