At least twenty five less privileged and orphans have been awarded full scholarship by a Non-governmental organisation in Kwara state to reduce poverty and social vices in the society.

 

Speaking at the flagging off of the distribution of the cash award to the beneficiaries in Ilorin, the founder of the Mai Nasara Education Support Foundation,Ahmad Muhammad said 19 of the beneficiaries are female.

 

He said that the those who benefited from the scholarship are drawn from both public and private schools across the state.

 

Muhammad explained that aim of the initiative is to see them through higher education as responsible citizen to enable them contribute to the development of the society.

 

He said efforts would be made to produce professionals who will directly impact the local healthcare, science and technology sector.

 

Muhammad noted that the initiative would cater for all their educational needs from school fees to educational materials.

 

He said the mission is to reduce the challenges of out of school children , particularly among the girls child.

 

According to him students from Kaiama communities in Kwara North that are educationally disadvantaged would be given priority to increase their participation in the field of science.

 

Muhammad maintained that efforts are on to raise about 100 million naira to increase the number of the beneficiaries and fully fund the scholarship initiative.
