Kaduna State Commandant of the NSCDC, Panam Musa addressing personnel shortly after the road walk.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps-NSCDC has underscored the need for everyone to take concrete action to mobilize for peaceful co-existence in time of crises and uncertainties.

Commandant of the Corps in Kaduna State, Panam Musa made the call while addressing personnel at the Command headquarters, in commemoration of this year’s international day of peace.

Commandant Panam Musa described peace as not just a vision, but a call to action that everyone can answer by promoting understanding, respect and justice on daily basis.

He pointed out that peaceful co-existence, empathy and understanding were prelude to breaking the walls of prejudice.

The Commandant stressed the need for harmonious co-existence and honouring each other’s dignity to achieve lasting peace.

“We must speak up against violence, hate, discrimination and inequality, then practice respect and embrace the diversity of the world”

“We must also bear in mind that this process of breaking down walls is not easy and cannot be achieved overnight. We may face resistance, discomfort and even opposition along the way. However, if we believe and trust ourselves, we will make it”

Commandant Panam Musa noted that the NSCDC is the security agency that is closer to the grassroot, hence the need for personnel to preach peace to the wider public and be civil in their approach.

He therefore reminded the people to rely on divine support and guidance through prayers and meditation, so as to gain insights into how they can serve as agents of peace and reconciliation in communities.

“Today, whatever you are doing, speak peace to the generality of humanity, speak peace wherever you go to, pronounce peace so that Nigeria will know that the NSCDC is preaching peace. We don’t have anything than to preach peace, because peace reduces criminality”

“We are peaceful by mandate, we are peaceful by organisation, we are peaceful be every standard. By our representation in the State, we are peaceful, we are grassroot peaceful people”

The international day of peace was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly-UNGA in 1981 to commemorate and strengthen the ideals of peace.

In 2001, the UNGA unanimously voted to fix the day on September 21st, and was designated as a global period for non-violence and ceasefire to encourage a cessation of hostilities.

It serves as a shared date for all people to commit to peace, promote understanding and work through a culture of peace.

Highpoint of the event was a road walk from the State Command headquarters to Government house roundabout.

The theme of this year’s event is: *Act Now For A Peaceful World*
