The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kebbi State, Kabiru Alkamawa, has called for collaborative efforts to ensure lasting peace in the state and across the country.

Alkamawa made the call at the Command’s headquarters in Birnin Kebbi while delivering his address on the occasion of the International Day of Peace.

He emphasized that peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice, equality, and mutual respect. He added that peace is not a gift to be awaited, but a responsibility to be pursued with urgency and determination.

The Commandant further noted that this year’s theme, “Act Now for a Peaceful World,” is both a call to action and a guiding principle, stressing that change must begin with individuals, families, neighborhoods, workplaces, and institutions.

He further stressed the need to promote dialogue over division, cooperation over confrontation, and compassion over hatred in order to lay a solid foundation for a more peaceful society, adding that every word of kindness, every act of justice, and every gesture of reconciliation brings us one step closer to the peaceful world we all desire.

In his keynote address on the occasion, the Deputy Corps Commandant, DCC Atiku Marafa, said this year’s theme, “Act Now for a Peaceful World,” is a timely reminder that peace is not a distant aspiration, but an urgent task that demands our collective action today.

He added that, every one is a stakeholder in the quest for peace, whether as leaders, teachers, parents, youths, or security operatives, all have a role to play and everyone to commit today to being ambassadors of peace in words, in actions, and in the values we uphold.

In his lecture titled “Act Now for a Peaceful World — Lessons and Imperatives for Kebbi State,” delivered by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Corps Mohammed Zayyanu Bawa, it was noted that Kebbi State is one of the states enjoying relative peace despite some recent challenges posed by bandits and lakurawa (informal armed groups).

He added that Governor Nasiru Idris has publicly vowed to intensify security operations to restore peace. The state government, he said, has also taken steps to collaborate with national security agencies and neighboring states to address cross-border threats.
