Over 15,000 farmers in Nasarawa State are set to benefit from the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit, PFSCU programme.
Executive Secretary of the Board and Technical Assistant to the President on Agriculture in the Office of the Vice President, Ms. Marion Moon, stated this during the launch of the Harvest Hope Caravan and presentation of the National Agricultural Policy Mechanism at the Government House, Lafia.
Ms. Moon explained that the PFSCU was established to engage stakeholders across the six geopolitical zones on priority interventions aimed at tackling food security challenges, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential.
She mentioned that the unit has been working on a policy framework aimed at enhancing food security and addressing hunger nationwide.
Commending Nasarawa for its robust data collection, she said the effort made the state one of 13 pilot states selected for the programme.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, while receiving the team, expressed confidence that the initiative would mitigate risks faced by farmers.
He noted that Nasarawa’s inclusion was no accident, given its vast agricultural potential, including the state’s rice farm in Jangwa, Awe Local Government Area.
In his goodwill message, Commissioner for Agriculture Umar Tanko Tunga stated that the launch of the Harvest Hope Caravan would enhance productivity and help farmers mitigate the effects of natural disasters and related challenges.
The event climaxed with the presentation of the Harvest Hope Caravan flag to Governor Sule.
