European Union in collaboration with United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF has launched schools enrolment drive campaign in Jigawa state.

The campaign which began on Monday in collaboration with the Jigawa state Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB will hold on the seven intervention local councils in the state.

In an interview with newsmen, the schools based management committees SBMC’s in the state commended the European union EU and United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF for the schools enrollment drive campaign in 7 local government areas of the state.

The Chairman of SBMC in Jahun local government, Malam Ja’afar Danbaba said the effort is commendable and timely, as a new school session has began.

According to him, through the townhall meeting, stakeholders were mobilized from nooks and crannies of the state and were made to understand their individual and collective roles in schools enrollment.

Also speaking, the SBMC chairman of Birnin Kudu local government, Malam Ahmad Chiroma, called for the sustainability of the campaign to increase enrollment in schools in Jigawa state.

“If such campaigns are constant and frequent, they will keep us abreast of our collective roles and we shall be able to solve our multiple issues as they concerned our education system”.

He pointed out that, jigawa is indeed in need of regular campaigns in order to make people active on issues that needs prolonged intervention, especially when it has to do with behavioural change.

He appealed to the state government and the partners, to sustain such campaigns even after the expiration of the EU, UNICEF interventions.

In Hadejia local government, the SBMC chairman, Malam Aminu Hassan said the efforts of the partners was commendable, as they introduced the inclusion of mothers in the campaign.

“Initially, women have been left out from the issues of education in our communities but with the inclusion of women, positive changes are visible,” Hassan said.

The chairman of SBMC Kafin Hausa local government area, Malam Ali Babale, said the turn out of the campaign is impressive.

Babale explained that the campaign was an excellent strategy to increase awareness on improving schools enrolment in Jigawa state.

He appealed for the sustainability of the campaign over a period of time to enable all stakeholders play their roles.

“I will, also want to use this medium to appeal to the organisers and the government to ensure inclusion of all local governments, in order to achieve a mass improvement in schools enrolment”
