Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has launched the distribution of a N1.1 billion business grant to groups and individuals under the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) programme to support Businesses
The official flag-off took place in Gusau, the Zamfara State Capital
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Governor Lawal reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transform and empowering businesses across the state through innovation and sustainable economic development.
He explained that the SABER programme is a World Bank initiative in Nigeria aimed at strengthening state-level policies to improve business environment, attract private investment, and stimulate economic growth.
“Today, we are distributing the sum of N1.1 billion to business groups comprising 2,000 beneficiaries who will receive N150,000 each, 1,000 beneficiaries to receive N500,000 each, and 60 entrepreneurs who will each get N5 million.
“I am glad to be fulfilling one of my promises to revive and strengthen businesses across Zamfara”
He expressed optimism that the initiative would attract more investors from within and outside the state that could lead to greater business expansion, empowerment, and self-reliance among residents.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Commerce, Industries and Tourism, Abdul Rahman Tumbido, said the intervention would boost business capacity, expand markets, and help stabilise the local economy.
He also commended the World Bank for its technical support in driving the SABER programme.
Ealier, Director General of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria SMEDAN DR Charles Oni, lauded Governor Lawal’s foresight in prioritising business development.
He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the grants to become self-reliant and contribute to job creation in their communities.
The Chairman of Zamfara State Chamber of Commerce, mines and Agriculture Hassan Tafida commended Zamfara State for supporting businesses in the state.
Highlight of the event included goodwill messages from traditional rulers and other stakeholders.
