Cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy-NDA have been advised to leverage on President Bola Tinubu’s bold and transformative reforms across key sectors for inclusive growth and long-term sustainable development.

The Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Dr Emomotimi John Agama gave the advice at the twenty-third convocation in honour of graduating cadets of seventy-two regular course and post-graduate students of the NDA, held at the Academy’s permanent site, Afaka in Kaduna State.

Dr.Emomotimi John Agama explained that the present administration has undertaken several macro-fiscal reforms, aimed at stabilizing the economy and fostering a more market-oriented and deregulated environment.

He suggested the re-directing of non-essential spendings, such as daily purchases, so as to accumulate a higher turnover, which could be invested for future growth.

The DG stressed the need for cadets and members of the armed forces to engage in agriculture, livestock, aquaculture or agro-processing to provide additional income and hedge against inflation and economic volatility.

Dr.Agama also advised them to be wary of affinity scams, ponzi schemes and pressure tactics, but rather ask questions, research thoroughly and never rush to financial decisions.

Earlier in his welcome address, Commandant of the NDA, Major General Abdul Khalifah Ibrahim noted that the desire of the present administration to diversify Nigeria’s dependence on oil and gas revenues, amidst turbulent global markets are critical issues with profound implications for development, security and institutional resilience.

He disclosed that the essence of the lecture was to inspire and challenge the minds of the students, faculty and the wider academic and professional community by drawing on the insights of an accomplished individual.

Major General Ibrahim maintained that the NDA remains firmly committed to its foundational mandate of providing primary officer training for the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The theme of the lecture is: “Pathway to Economic Prosperity For A Public Servant In A Deregulated Economy”
