Nigerian Defence Academy Officers’ Wives Association (NDAOWA), Kaduna State Chapter, has successfully trained 1,657 youths and women in digital and vocational skills aimed at promoting self-reliance and reducing unemployment.
The training covered key areas such as cybersecurity, web development, graphics design, digital marketing, bag making, knitting, handcrafts, and other creative skills through the ICT Hub Spark.

Speaking at the closing ceremony in Kaduna, the Coordinator of NDAOWA, Mrs. Halima Yahaya Ibrahim, said the initiative was designed to empower young people with relevant knowledge to compete in today’s digital economy, stressing that it reflects the association’s commitment to youth development and national growth.
Mrs. Halima Yahaya Ibrahim explained that the initiative, initially designed for 250 participants, recorded an overwhelming turnout, which organizers described as evidence of the hunger for knowledge and empowerment in the community.

“The representative of the Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Major General Abdul Khalifa Ibrahim, the Director of Coordination, Commodore Tanko Lengaya, described the programme as a noble initiative conceived by the Coordinator to equip young people with marketable skills for socio-economic development.
He assured that the Academy would continue to support NDAOWA to succeed.
The Coordinator of the Barrack Code and Beyond Barracks Project, Mr. Muhammad Usman Thomson, explained that the initiative was carried out in partnership with NDAOWA, noting that the programme recorded remarkable success.
He added that the impressive turnout of participants in the barracks demonstrated the strong interest of youths and women in acquiring modern skills that would contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.

Among the beneficiaries, Miss Clean Augustine, the daughter of a widow from Rivers State residing in Kaduna, said she was delighted with the training, which equipped her with graphic design and digital marketing skills.
Another participant, Innocent Ibrahim, a Cybersecurity student from Bauchi State, said he gained valuable knowledge, noting that cybersecurity is critical in today’s world covering threat analysis, vulnerability assessment, information security, and protection against cyber attacks.
Also Salisu Muhammad Auwal, who emerged as the overall best student in Cybersecurity, said he learned practical techniques to protect internet service providers and strengthen digital safety.
