Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has called on Muslims to use the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud to reflect on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad, Peace Be Upon Him.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau described the Prophet as a role model, urging Nigerians to emulate his virtues of compassion, peace, and support for one another.
The Federal Government had declared Friday, September 5th, 2025, a public holiday to mark the celebration.
Senator Barau, who also serves as First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, appealed for prayers for peace, stability, and prosperity in Nigeria, stressing that unity remains key to overcoming national challenges.
He also assured that the National Assembly is committed to enacting reforms that will address gaps in the country’s laws. According to him, the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, under his chairmanship, has held successful public hearings across the six geopolitical zones.
The hearings, he said, focused on key issues such as local government autonomy, electoral and judicial reforms, state creation, state police, and inclusive governance.
Senator Barau pledged that the legislature would leave no stone unturned in ensuring constitutional reforms that reflect the aspirations of Nigerians.
In a related message, the chairperson of the Muslim Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria, FCT chapter, Hajiya Medina Dauda, urged Muslims to uphold the values of compassion, peace, and unity that define Islam.
She emphasized the need for interfaith harmony and cooperation, saying Nigeria’s diversity should be a source of strength, not division.
Medina also called on Muslims to recommit to promoting respect, dialogue, and human rights, while working to empower communities through education.
She prayed that the celebration of Eid-el-Maulud would inspire Nigerians to build a more inclusive, tolerant, and compassionate society.
Both Senator Barau and Hajiya Medina stressed that by following the teachings of the Prophet, Nigerians can foster unity and progress in the country.
